Ring in 2026 at the Chook Drop in Downtown Houghton!
In 2023, the City of Houghton and Visit Keweenaw launched a new Keweenaw tradition — the Houghton Chook Drop! “Chook” is local slang for a warm winter hat or beanie, a must-have in the Copper Country. This year, we’re keeping the fun going with two drops once again — one for the little ones and another for the night owls! Expect bonfires to warm up, music – and a fun way to ring in the last 365 days!

𝗕𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗿𝗼𝗽:
Stop into Bevaimo, your NYE pregame hub. Bevaimo is Houghton’s new wine bar and has tasty charcuterie, flatbreads and a wide selection of wine and cocktails to kick your night off right.

Kick off the evening early with our family-friendly celebration! Enjoy free winter-themed bookmark making for kids, and baked goods for sale by Nikki Makes. Dress warm and enjoy kid-friendly music leading up to the 6 p.m. Chook Drop!

The music turns up and the energy rises as we ring in the night with our Late-Night Chook Drop! Grab your crew, a social district drink, dance a little – and welcome 2026 down on the Houghton Pier.

Head up the hill to the Bonfire Continental for a midnight celebration! The Bonfire is ringing in the New Year at Midnight and will have a comedian, drink specials and a vibrant atmosphere to wrap up your night.
